The omission of Mark Footitt from the BBC county team of the season is quite simply, inexplicable. Looking at those selected there are only two representatives from division two. One of them is Michael Hogan. A fine bowler it must be said, but how on earth can anybody seriously believe he has been more influential than Foots. He has fewer wickets for a start,so what exactly is the criteria for basing such decisions?. Obviously not performance.

More than any other sport, there are things that happen in cricket which completely defy rational thinking. The utterly stupid and lop sided domestic schedule is the classic example but there are many others. Andrew Gale being denied the right to receive the CC1 trophy, another totally irrational decision by those who administer the game.

Then we come to the choice of Alistair Cook as England one day captain. He is barely a one day PLAYER,full stop, let alone a captain. As a tactician he is totally inadequate and as a motivator about as exciting as as listening to a party political broadcast. As a captain he is out on his own as the worst in living memory. Some of his decisions defy belief and if we are relying upon him to score runs at the World Cup,the plane that takes us there might as well remain on the runway with the engines running. Those who appointed him have too much to lose to relieve him of his duties. Reputations must be protected at all costs, but all they are really doing is making themselves look bigger idiots than they were to begin with,if that,s possible. Maddo may have his faults but compared to Cook he is a genius.

I have left comment on the BBC website.  A poor, yet predictable review by the Beeb, who seem blighted by the need to be seen as popular.  Big teams beefed up etc. It is the same with football, when Liverpool and Tottenham are usually lauded across the air waves and websites by the 'experts', only to then flatter before ultimately failing to deliver.  West Ham was a dead cert last week against the Reds, but not in the eyes of the Beeb.

Cook is fine test opener and that's that.  The key decision makers seem to see a U turn as an admission of weakness, yet it would be for the good for the side ultimately.

Tut tut. It's the BBC. Political correctness must hold sway at all times.

But you're right.
